Nature Flash

Moth, Powis castle, 30.5.15

Something moves on a leaf, down by the pool, on a sultry day at the end of May. Unsteady, as if it’s just appeared in the world – what is it? Its wings are moth-like; perhaps it’s a brown china-mark moth whose caterpillars are aquatic and feed on water lilies and it has emerged from the pool, changing from caterpillar to chrysalis to moth, changing from water to air. Creatures materialise, crossing between different bodies, between different worlds. I stand and watch; it flies away.
